Nutritional knowledge, dietary habits and nutritional status of adults living in urban Communities in Lagos State

Background: Malnutrition is a major threat to the world's public health. While under-nutrition and micronutrient deficiencies persist, obesity increasing worldwide. Although malnutrition has been extensively researched among children, it become of concern adults because relative increase in prevalence diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
 Objectives: This study was conducted determine nutritional knowledge, dietary habits status an urban community Lagos State.
 Methods: descriptive cross-sectional involving 320 selected using multi-stage sampling technique. Data obtained interviewer-administered questionnaires standard anthropometric measurements. Chi-square analysis used compare between categories.
 Results: Only 15.9% respondents had good knowledge. The estimated nutrient intake showed deficiency fiber, energy most micro-nutrients with exception zinc, iron vitamin A. Dietary carbohydrate, protein as well sodium levels were elevated. BMI findings overweight at 24.8% 17.3%. However, there no statistically significant association observed knowledge respondents.
 Conclusion: Nutritional poor relatively high participants. Improved nutrition education intervention necessary reduce living communities Lagos, Nigeria.
